Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine has changed the world’s food supply chains.
Products that Ukraine will not be able to deliver to the world market provoke a chain reaction: countries are increasing their food stocks and limiting food trade in the background of uncertainty, as a result, prices are rising, and the risk of hunger in poor countries is growing.

The Making of Modern Ukraine: A Free Online Course from Yale Professor Timothy Snyder.
Historian Timothy Snyder is teaching a course at Yale University called The Making of Modern Ukraine. And he’s generously making the lectures available on YouTube so that you can follow along too.
All of the currently-available lectures appear on this playlist. A syllabus for the course can be found here. Key questions covered by the course include:
What brought about the Ukrainian nation? Ukraine must have existed as a society and polity on 23 February 2022, else Ukrainians would not have collectively resisted Russian invasion the next day. Why has the existence of Ukraine occasioned such controversy? In what ways are Polish, Russian, and Jewish self-understanding dependent upon experiences in Ukraine? Just how and when did a modern Ukrainian nation emerge? Just how for that matter does any modern nation emerge? And why some nations and not others? What is the balance between structure and agency in history? Can nations be chosen, and does it matter? Can the choices of individuals influence the rise of much larger social organizations? If so, how? Ukraine was the country most touched by Soviet and Nazi terror: what can we learn about those systems, then, from Ukraine? Is the post-colonial, multilingual Ukrainian nation a holdover from the past, or does it hold some promise for the future?

Ukrainian World Congress (UWC)
Established in 1967, the Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) is the global voice for the Ukrainian people worldwide. As an international non-governmental organisation, UWC represent the interests of over 20 million Ukrainians in the diaspora, unite Ukrainian communities and organisations in over 60 countries, and work to support a democratic, prosperous, European Ukraine. The UWC is recognized by the United Nations Economic and Social Council as a non-governmental organisation with special consultative status and has a participatory status as an international non-governmental organisation with the Council of Europe.

Azov Contra Fake
Russian propaganda has a strong influence around the world, and unfortunately, New Zealand is no exception. With large financial capital, Moscow spreads pro-Russian narratives through fake news, bribing journalists and opinion leaders, its own English-language media, bots and fake public profiles on social media, and many other hybrid forms of propaganda.
The Russians actively use bots, social media groups, public profiles, and ads (especially on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) to throw in controversial claims that divide the public. In addition to dividing the public and creating extra tension around certain topics and issues, these accounts can be used to directly manipulate public opinions.

EUvsDisinfo
EUvsDisinfo is the flagship project of the European External Action Service’s East StratCom Task Force. It was established in 2015 to better forecast, address, and respond to the Russian Federation’s ongoing disinformation campaigns affecting the European Union, its Member States, and countries in the shared neighbourhood.
EUvsDisinfo’s core objective is to increase public awareness and understanding of the Kremlin’s disinformation operations, and to help citizens in Europe and beyond develop resistance to digital information and media manipulation.

In this short course, ten scholars from different fields present ten topics, covering the essential aspects of Ukrainian culture. Each devoted to a particular angle, these videos reveal how past events, including external political and cultural domination by imperial powers, have shaped Ukrainian society.
Understanding contemporary events requires awareness of the cultural and social foundations of modern Ukrainian society. The Ukrainian nation has been developing for centuries. External powers often challenged it, and its growth was defined by geography, cultural exchanges, and global events.
In addition to the video lectures, the course offers important primary and secondary sources. They are texts, videos, and online resources that touch upon a range of issues in Ukrainian culture. Each of them will help you form a balanced and nuanced view of Ukrainian culture, identities, and society.
Ukraïnica
The newly launched by the Ukrainian Institute at Harvard University in partnership with the Ukrainian Institute – Ukraïnica is a database and syllabus-building tool to help you teach Ukraine in your classroom!
This platform is meant to be a constantly growing resource where everyone participates as a contributor. The main idea behind this platform is to help those outside the field of Ukrainian studies who would like to include topics on Ukraine in their teaching. With the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine of February 24, this has become even more urgent because one of putin’s goals has been to eradicate Ukraine and Ukrainians by destroying the country and killing the people, while erasing its history and culture. At the same time, because of the aggression, the interest in and demand for in-depth materials on Ukraine have never been higher.
